Patsy's Election Musings

Well fellow political nerds, week two of the campaign is over. The overarching thought I've had these past few days is the sense that I'm living in some sort of parallel universe. Liberals endorsing tax cuts? Jack Layton backing down on private health care? A Conservative policy on child care? What kind of crazy world are we living in? But, I digress. Here are a few hi-lights/lo-lights...

1) Lo-light: Martin's idea to ban handguns. But wait, you ask, aren't handguns basically banned already? Lame-O idea Paul. The fatal flaw in this idea is that the Fiddy-wannabes in Toronto and Vancouver killing each other are not using legal guns anyways. Duh. You think every gangsta in TO is going to turn over his/her gun and start using hand-to-hand combat? Doubtful.

2) Hi-light: the NDP's new "give Liberals the boot" ad. I love cheeky Jack!

3) Lo-light: Paul Martin pandering to American haters at the climate change conference. What a bloody embarassment this guy is. Obviously Dubya couldn't give a rat's ass about the environment, but that doesn't mean that Paul shouldn't check his facts before spouting off at how poor the Americans' environmental record is. Had he checked those numbers, he would have realized that Canada's record on greenhouse gases is actually WORSE than that of the Americans.

4) Hi-light: The Jean Lapierre/Gilles Duceppe feud over those "Liberals disappearing in Quebec"/"that sounds like something out of Nazi Germany" comments. Way to equate the trouble the Libs have gotten themselves into in Quebec with the Third Reich. Quelle bonne idée! (What was he thinking?)

5) Lo-light: Buzz Hargrove selling out the CAW to the highest bidder. What a disgrace. Who wants to wager a little Xmas money that good 'ol Buzz ends up in the Senate?

I think I'm running out of hi-lights... regardless, I look forward to next week's debate. Blog on!
